چکیده

Abstract The presence of complex fluids in nature and industrial applications combined with the rapid growth computer power over past decades has led to an increasing number numerical studies non-Newtonian flows. In most cases, models can be implemented existing Newtonian solvers by relatively simple modifications viscosity. However, due scarcity analytical solutions for fluid flows widespread use regularization methods, performing rigorous code verification is a challenging task. method manufactured (MMS) powerful tool generate verification. this article, we present discuss results three exercises based on MMS: (i) steady single-phase flow; (ii) unsteady two-phase flow smooth interface; (iii) free surface. first second showed that possible both single- third exercise revealed “spurious velocities” typical free-surface calculations Volume-of-Fluid model lead viscosities” fluid. procedure illustrated herein second-order finite volume solver, using regularized Herschel-Bulkley as example. same methodology however applicable any solver all rheological falling under class generalized models.

Incompressible Non-Newtonian Fluid Flows

A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid whose flow properties differ in many ways from those of Newtonian fluids. Most commonly the viscosity of non-Newtonian fluids is not independent of shear rate or shear rate history. In practice, many fluid materials exhibits non-Newtonian fluid behavior such as: salt solutions, molten, ketchup, custard, toothpaste, starch suspensions, paint, blood, and shampoo e...

Comparison of the hyperbolic range of two-fluid models on two-phase gas -liquid flows

In this paper, a numerical study is conducted in order to compare hyperbolic range of equations of isotherm two-fluid model governing on two-phase flow inside of pipe using conservative Shock capturing method. Differential equations of the two-fluid model are presented in two forms (i.e. form I and form II). In forms I and II, pressure correction terms are hydrodynamic and hydrostatic, respecti...

Incompressible laminar flow - newtonian and non-newtonian fluids

The problems of incompressible flows dominate a large part of the fluid mechanics scene. For this reason, they are given special attention in this book and we devote two chapters to this subject. In the present chapter we deal with various steadystate and transient situations in which the flow is forced by appropriate pressure gradients and boundary forces. In the next chapter we shall consider...

Newtonian Limit for Weakly Viscoelastic Fluid Flows

This article addresses the low Weissenberg asymptotic analysis (Newtonian limit) of some macroscopic models of viscoelastic fluid flows in the framework of global weak solutions. We investigate the convergence of the corotational Johnson-Segalman, the FENE-P, the Giesekus and PTT models. Relying on a priori bounds coming from energy or free energy estimates, we first study the weak convergence ...
